Why in the discussion ?
Soon the world's leading leaders will participate in a new climate change summit, which will be completely online, thus it will be carbon neutral.
key points
- This eco-friendly event is quite the opposite of many other international political summits in which thousands of delegates travel by jet carriers from all over the world and reach a place where they live in air-conditioned comfortable surroundings.
- The virtual climate summit is the brainchild of President Hilda Heine of Marshall Islands. Marshall Islands is a low island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, which will be submerged in the sea due to the rise in sea level resulting from the continuation of global warming.
- This will be the first global political meeting that will be held online (online Climate change summit). French President, Immanuel Macroon, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be the main participants to participate in this.
- Ms. Heine said that state-of-the-art setup is designed to show that small nations like Marshall Islands can also have a big impact on the world by using constructive, climate-friendly solutions.
- This summit is being organized by Ms. Heine, under the chairmanship of the 48-nation Climate Impact Forum.
- The main purpose of the virtual summit is to encourage the international community to keep global heating up to 1.5 degree Celsius above the pre-industrial level.
- A report by the United Nations last month warned that the world could reach the threshold of emissions before 2030, unless there is a phenomenal global action again to cut emissions.
- The latest round of the United Nations Climate Talks, COP-24, will begin in the southern Polish city of Katowice on December 2 with the aim of reviving the Parish Agreement three years ago.
- Ms. Heine said that this virtual summit is an opportunity for those who are first to influence climate change, who want their voice to be heard.
- Unlike the event, in 2015 the organizers of the United Nations COP-21 talks in Paris estimated that it produced 43,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide, although most of this was later replaced by carbon-credit plans.
